The best waste is the waste you don't produce. The second best is the waste you reuse. Our recycled cotton briefs start from this simple logic: recover what would have been thrown away, turn it into something well made and wear it with a clear conscience. Three colours, a flawless composition, European manufacturing.
Recycled cotton: where does it actually come from?
In every garment factory, cutting fabric creates offcuts. These pieces of fabric, too small to be used, account for up to 25% of each roll. Usually, they end up in the bin. At BLUEBUCK, we do things differently.
These offcuts, called "pre-consumer waste" in the trade, are collected from factories, sent to a recycling facility, shredded mechanically and then spun again to create new yarns. Nothing lost, everything goes back into a new production cycle.
The result is a recycled-fibre brief made of 95% recycled cotton and 5% elastane. Its feel is slightly different from organic cotton, a little peach-skin, typical of the shorter fibres that come from mechanical recycling. But its breathability, absorbency and durability are all there. And its environmental footprint is unbeatable.
Why recycled cotton is the most eco-friendly cotton fibre
Conventional cotton is a resource-hungry crop. Organic cotton already does much better. And recycled cotton takes a different approach, for a simple reason: it doesn't need to be grown.
No land used. No irrigation. And above all, a considerable water saving: it usually takes between 300 and 450 litres of water to grow enough virgin cotton to make a single piece of underwear. With recycled cotton, that water is saved entirely. On top of that, CO2 emissions are reduced at every stage, since the whole farming stage and much of the processing of the raw material are removed.
Choosing an eco-friendly recycled cotton brief means choosing the cotton fibre that uses the fewest resources. With no compromise on comfort.
Three colours, a streamlined logic
Our recycled cotton briefs come in three colours: white, navy blue, black. Three essentials, three safe bets. No frills, no extended palette: recycled cotton lends itself less to complex dyes, and we preferred to play the consistency card rather than force a colour range that wouldn't make sense. What you see is exactly what you get.
Simple packs, designed to get to the point
Our recycled cotton briefs come in packs of 3, with four options:
- 3 white recycled cotton briefs
- 3 navy blue recycled cotton briefs
- 3 black recycled cotton briefs
- 1 of each colour
The idea is to make the choice simple for those who know what they want and want to receive it without overthinking.
Recycled cotton briefs made in Portugal with solar power
Consistency all the way: our recycled cotton briefs are made in Portugal, in a factory powered 100% by solar electricity produced on site. The elastic waistband comes from Austria, where renewable energy accounts for more than 80% of the energy mix. Recycled cotton underwear made with fossil energy would rather miss the point.
Both are eco-friendly choices, but they don't play the same tune. The GOTS-certified organic cotton brief is made from virgin cotton grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers: a clean, traceable crop, with long fibres that give a particularly soft feel.
The recycled cotton brief starts from a material that already exists, production offcuts that would have been thrown away, and removes the farming stage entirely. Its impact on water and CO2 emissions is even lower. Its feel is slightly different, a little peach-skin. Both have their logic. Organic cotton for softness and the GOTS certification. Recycled cotton for the lowest possible environmental footprint.
Yes, with one nuance on the feel. Recycled cotton fibres are slightly shorter than virgin cotton fibres, which gives the fabric a slightly peach-skin texture, instantly recognisable and appreciated by many. For the rest, the BLUEBUCK recycled cotton brief is breathable, absorbent and stretchy enough to adapt without squeezing, thanks to its 5% elastane. The waistband doesn't leave marks, the label doesn't itch. Everyday comfort with no bad surprises, and the satisfaction of wearing something truly consistent from start to finish.
