Eco-friendly swim shorts start with a good question: where does the material come from? At Bluebuck, the answer is simple: our recycled swim shorts are made from plastic waste recovered from the sea, turned into recycled polyester fibres through our collaboration with Seaqual Initiative.
Absolutely everything, right down to the inner mesh lining, comes from this recycling process. No virgin plastic, no compromise on quality, just a material that has already had a first life in the ocean and now has a second one on the beach.
More of a briefs or trunks person? Our swim briefs and swim trunks are made from ECONYL® recycled nylon. Same approach, different material and cut.
SEAQUAL INITIATIVE: a real commitment behind the material
SEAQUAL INITIATIVE is an organisation committed to the fight against plastic pollution in the oceans. It works with environmental associations in many countries to clean up seas and beaches. The plastic waste recovered is then
- handled by the recycling industry,
- turned into new fibres,
- and then used in finished products.
Since SEAQUAL INITIATIVE was launched, several hundred tonnes of marine plastic have been removed from the oceans this way. Our recycled men's swim shorts are a direct result of this collaboration. Every pair of shorts worn is plastic that will no longer float.
Durable swim shorts, built to last on the beach and over time
An eco-friendly material is not enough if the product doesn't hold up. Our swim shorts are durable because they are designed to withstand use (sun, salt, sand, chlorine) without wearing out prematurely.
- They are made of 100% recycled polyester,
- they dry ultra quickly,
- they stay light out of the water,
- and they keep their shape and colours season after season.
The cut is designed to be as versatile as possible: neither too tight nor too loose, it suits as many body types as possible and goes easily from the beach to the terrace without making waves.
The Velcro fly and the external drawstring let you adjust the fit to your preference. A practical detail you quickly forget when it's there and miss when it isn't.
Ten colours, one commitment
Our eco-friendly swim shorts come in ten colours, all inspired by the sea and nature: arctic blue, royal blue, navy blue with different combinations of coloured details, teal, khaki.
Understated yet bold shades, designed to last without going out of style, in line with our approach of timeless collections that are never on sale.
Made in Portugal, with solar power
Like the whole BLUEBUCK collection, our men's recycled polyester swim shorts are made in Portugal, in a factory powered 100% by renewable electricity produced on site. A short, traceable production chain with no opaque subcontracting, in line with what we have stood for from the start.
Conventional polyester is a synthetic fibre made from crude oil, a fossil, non-renewable resource whose extraction and processing emit particularly high levels of CO2. Recycled polyester skips this step: it is produced from existing plastic materials, which significantly reduces energy consumption and production-related emissions.
SEAQUAL goes even further. While conventional recycled polyester is generally made from plastic bottles collected on land, SEAQUAL comes from plastic waste recovered specifically from the sea and beaches, as part of a structured initiative with local environmental associations. It is a recycling approach focused on marine pollution, one of the most problematic for aquatic ecosystems. Choosing SEAQUAL recycled polyester swim shorts therefore means directly supporting ocean clean-up, not just avoiding virgin plastic.
SEAQUAL recycled polyester is a robust material, but good care makes all the difference over time. After each use, a rinse in cold water is enough to remove salt, sand or chlorine without damaging the fibres. In the machine, choose a delicate cycle at low temperature and save it for deep cleaning rather than after every outing. Avoid fabric softener, which damages the fibres over time. For drying, air drying is more than enough (SEAQUAL dries quickly, that's precisely one of its strengths). The tumble dryer, on the other hand, should be avoided: intense heat wears out the fibres and fades the colours prematurely. Well cared for, BLUEBUCK swim shorts keep their shape and colours well beyond one season.
