Pourquoi les caleçons et les slips se retrouvent toujours troués au milieu ? - BLUEBUCK

Why do boxers and briefs always have a hole in the middle?

At the risk of disappointing you, the fact that your boxers wear out in the middle is not at all linked to the size of your manhood. But rest assured, other very real and rational factors can explain this phenomenon. From the quality of the fabric to its care, including purely mechanical aspects, we explain to you why your boxer shorts end up with a hole in the middle and how to prevent this from happening.

Why do the boxer shorts have a hole in the middle?

We are not telling you anything new when we say that boxers, like all underwear, form the first layer of fabric in contact with your skin. It is therefore quite natural that it is more prone to friction, which will be all the more harmful if the quality of construction and the fabric of the boxer shorts are poorly chosen.

Friction wears out the fabric

One of the main causes of underwear wear and tear is constant friction. Whether it's walking, running, or just sitting, every movement you make causes friction between your boxers and your skin or pants. It is this incessant contact which gradually weakens the fibers of the fabric. The friction is most intense in the crotch area, making it particularly vulnerable. Over time, repeated friction ends up wearing down the fabric, to the point of forming holes [QED].

You chose a size too small

It is often said that size doesn't matter... Well, at BLUEBUCK, we don't quite agree. But here we are specifically talking about the size of your underwear. If you choose underwear that is too tight, the tension exerted on the fabric will be too great. This excessive tension, combined with everyday movements, accelerates the wear and tear of the material, especially in areas where the fabric is most stretched. Although most underwear contains elastane, underwear that is too small is more likely to end up with holes in the middle.

The material used is of poor quality

Last but not least, a key factor that affects the durability of your underwear is the quality of the fabric used. Cheap underwear is often made from poor-quality materials that are much less resistant to the friction we mentioned earlier. Some cottons, in particular, with very short fibers, can tear very easily and promote the appearance of holes in your underwear. We will explain right after this which material to choose to avoid this problem.

How to prevent underwear from ending up with a hole in the middle?

Materials to choose for underwear that lasts

At BLUEBUCK, we like things well made! This is why we offer you underwear made from quality materials:

  • organic cotton
  • recycled cotton
  • Tencel

Let us tell you a bit more about each of these three materials and how they can help slow down the appearance of holes in your underwear.

Organic cotton

You hear about it a lot, but it can never be repeated enough: organic cotton perfectly combines durability and respect for the environment. BLUEBUCK's ambition is to offer you high-quality men's underwear with the lowest possible impact on the climate. Organic cotton fibers are made to last. Subjected to a compression treatment, organic cotton threads are both soft, strong, and resistant to wear. What more could you ask for?

Recycled cotton

As its name suggests, recycled cotton is made from reclaimed fibers. This eco-friendly alternative helps reduce textile waste. Recycled fibers are slightly shorter than those of organic cotton, which is why we mix recycled fibers with virgin organic cotton fibers to enhance their strength.

Tencel

Also known as Lyocell, Tencel is a cellulosic fiber made from wood pulp. Halfway between cotton and silk, Tencel is breathable, soft, technical, lightweight, and durable. A true eco-friendly alternative to viscose, Tencel is highly resistant to friction and will prevent your underwear from wearing out in the middle as quickly as those made from poor-quality materials.

Reinforced construction to minimize wear and tear

At BLUEBUCK, to minimize wear and tear (and the risk of holes forming), we have gone the extra mile… literally! All our briefs and boxers feature a reinforced construction with a lining in the crotch area. This addition of a second layer of fabric helps increase the lifespan of your underwear, especially in the areas most prone to wear and tear.

Exceptionally strong seams

To further address the issue of underwear developing a hole in the middle, we have designed the seams of our underwear, particularly in the crotch area, to be exceptionally strong. Daily use and repeated washing will not easily wear out these specially designed seams. This attention to detail is what ensures the durability of our products at BLUEBUCK.

Some maintenance tips to maximize the life of your underwear

It's not all about choosing underwear that lasts, you still have to want (and know) to make them last! Here are some maintenance tips to prevent your boxers from getting holes too quickly:

  1. Wash them at low temperature : to preserve the fibers, nothing better than washing at 30°C (85 Fahrenheit) max.
  2. Use gentle products : chemicals containing bleaches can damage the fabric.
  3. Let them dry in the open air : avoid the tumble dryer and opt instead for air drying, preferably in the shade. It's much gentler on your underwear.

Opt for a brand that advocates slow fashion

At BLUEBUCK, we prioritize quality over quantity. This includes producing boxers that won't end up with holes after just 15 uses and, more generally, designing high-quality products that last a long time.

By choosing durable materials, you support environmentally friendly production methods and reduce both the frequency of replacements and textile waste.

Additionally, by embracing slow fashion, you save money in the long run: you may invest in underwear that is slightly more expensive than lower-quality products, but their durability ensures a much better value for money over time.
